Our First Urban Cottage

There’s always an excitement being in a new city, well, especially if that city is Austin. When my then fiance summoned me to move to his favorite city, the first order of business was to get a place together. We bought a unit at the 360 Condos when it was pre-selling. I didn’t even know where exactly it was but the model looked good so we jumped in. It’s all about location, location, location right? Well, how about the space, space, space? At a whopping 754 sq ft, I sure did miss my little cottage and my front yard with identical topiaries at the front door. I was determined to make our tiny space our very own urban cottage. Cement walls paired with vintage clocks, geometric wall paper amidst cozy pieces and white office furniture with a birdcage. It’s all about making it personal, right? I was giddy with excitement when it was featured at The Austin-American Statesman paper on February 2011, the web version is here. Some of the photos are by my friend Andrew.

Eternal Elegance

Maybe it’s the romantic Victorian landscape or the intricate details of lace and chiffon but these images truly exude eternal elegance. It’s reminiscent of treasured perfume bottles, Venetian scalloped mirrors and Jasmine potpourri. Shot at The Vintage Laundry for Bleach Online. Dress by LillyLorraine.

That and meeting wonderful families who are ready for the exhilarating change of getting into a new home. Below is a list of some of the staging projects we have done so far!

A Colorful Candyland at the W Austin

When Caplan Miller Events asked me to do some dessert bars for a wedding at the W Austin, I was of course sweetly appreciative. I mean who doesn’t love shopping for candy? The colors were bright pinks, oranges and green. I was so thrilled color coordinating sweet stuff, lovely paper, compotes, jars and yes, there were French macaroons of course! The lovely wedding was glamorous and chic with impressive floral designs by David Kurio and the Stage and Rental pieces from Townsley Designs. The wedding was featured at Style Me Pretty here. Photos by Ashley Garmon. Enjoy!

Modern Farmhouse at The Swinneys

The Swinneys are just my perfect clients! They love the urban cottage design aesthetic …I do too! Yellow and gray? Yup, ditto! Farmhouse and vintage details? Most definitely. I knew this collaboration was going to be a breeze. Matt of Launch 787 who orchestrates Austin Fashion Week, the Modern Home & Outdoor Living Tours [among other fabulous events] in this lovely city was very perceptive; his wife Kara was thorough and amazing, and the kids? Adorable cuteness. From a clean slate, their bedroom and living room was slowly transformed into the urban cottage with vintage details they hoped for. Enjoy!

Town and Country

What does a young, well-to-do and extremely gorgeous do on a Spring weekend? Well, how about, plan the details of their trip at the library, have a small picnic near the pergola, dash out in style in their posh car and have a romantic evening under the flicker of a lovely chandelier. This shoot took place at The Plantation, oh and it was about 20 degrees [at least that’s how I felt] and new friendships and collaborations were made forever. For Nside Austin Magazine, March 2012.

A Bit of Rococo in the Park

Have you seen the movie Marie Antoinette? I’m sure you have! The styling is all about Rococo. I have been obsessed with this design style even before I saw this movie. What’s not to love? Intricate details, baroque styles, elegant refinement….the style is all about romance! So, when Diya of In Her Stilletos asked me to style the set for a Rococo-themed project, I was totally in! Shot at Mayfield Park with amazing and super-tall  models with pastel-colored hair, the shoot was featured at the Teen Vogue website.

Sweet SugaPlump

I must tell you, Jocelyn of Sugaplump Pastries may be the sweetest chef you’ll ever meet. Her creations are scrumptious and delicious. Nothing less of course from an honors graduate of Le Cordon Bleu. I helped Jocelyn with styling some of her photo shoots and styling her dessert table for events such as the debut of Austin Culture Map and La Dolce Vita. Her infused cake balls are the bomb, seriously you must try them!

Donuts and Cupcakes

Donuts and cupcakes, did anybody say sugar overload? I’m a total sucker for sweet events and what could be sweeter than a wedding? When Martha Lynn, hair stylist extraordinaire {yes, she is Rare magazine‘s best hairstylist & People’s Choice best hairstylist as well for Austin Fashion Week and she’s a mean colorist too!}, asked me to help decorate her tables and the sweets area for her wedding, I was more than happy to do it. The beautiful bride wanted pink and green with a Southern charm. Here’s what I did! Thanks of course to the great team at Caplan Miller Events and amazing photography by Cory Ryan. The wedding was featured at Style Me Pretty here.

Amazing Arches

So, amidst our house hunting, I’m slowly realizing how there are just some things that are a must for a house for me. Little architectural details which really are not so *little.* So, maybe crown moldings can be installed, trims can be added to doorways & windows, but to have arched hallways is another thing…they should be in the structure of the house already. I guess that’s also why I adore old homes more as some have an abundance of these arches. Here are some of my inspiration:

The arched hallway leads to double daybeds | lounge or reading areas.

Columns + Arches = a pairing made in architectural heaven!

Even in distress and decay, the arched doorway exudes beauty.

Stone floor & arches jive so seamlessly.
What’s better than just an arched doorway? Arched doorways plus symmetrical bookcases on either side.
So, when it comes to hallways & doorways, are you an arch lover or you go for straight ones?
