Ten Reasons to Attend Design Camp | Decorology

Hello lovelies! We have another post about the “Ten Reasons to Attend Design Camp” today. This time it’s from the amazing and gorgeous Ashley of Decorology Blog. I was so thrilled to meet her as she previously helped me get the word out about my new shop here. Her blog is super popular and have tons of inspiration about interior design and decorating. These are her Ten Reasons, take it away Ashley….

1. Refresh your passion
So many of us work from home as designers, and we tend to get stuck in our own little bubble. Being around others that share our interests really reminds you why it is you got into the business in the first place. Seeing and hearing about upcoming trends really gets creative juices flowing!

2. Make new and fabulous friends
Need I say more? Design Camp attracts other ambitious and design-minded folks, so you’re bound to meet lots of other kindred spirits!

That’s me and the gorgeous Ashley in classic black at the pre-camp Soiree.

3. An education about improving and/or creating web presence

The importance of having a website and an online identity cannot be stressed. Tips and ideas for creating and/or maintaining a website for your design business are covered in detail, along with plenty of examples.

4. An education in social media best practices.
A website is just one half of creating web presence. You’ll also get an education in social media, and spreading the word about fabulous creations and services via facebook, linked in, blogging, twitter, and other exciting design platforms like “Olioboard”

5. Network
Two heads are better than one, and it’s a guarantee that great ideas and partnerships will be born out of lunch breaks and cocktail hours! Be sure to bring many business cards!
6. Learn
Design Camp’s agenda is carefully curated to provide attendees with a wide scope of design trends and vital to-the-trade related info. The conference is designed to ensure campers will have the tools they need to run a modern-day design business.

7. Travel
Design Camp locations are carefully considered, and therefore held in cities with a thriving design comm unity, fun shopping, and great eats. I was lucky enough to attend Design Camp in Autstin, TX, a city I’ve been wanting to visit for a few years now.

8. Cocktails
Need I say more? Meet and greet cocktails on opening night, and on night two were a great way to get things started and wrapped up!

9. Food
Need I say more again? All the inspiration and learning going on at Design Camp can lead to an empty stomach, but around the clock snacks, yummy lunches, and gourmet hors d’oeuvres keep energy levels high!

10. Goodies
End of camp door prizes at Design Camp Austin included a gorgeous Modern Lantern lamp, $1,000 Vintage and Modern shopping certificate, a gorgeous art print from Wendover Art Group, and many more!

A stunning AND CORDLESS Modern Lantern lamp.

Thanks so much Ashley! Don’t forget to check out her blog at Decorology. And while you’re at it…why not join the best of the best roasting some marshmallows in the next Design Camp?

Top 10 Reasons to Attend Design Camp | Sharon Taylor

At the end of October, I was lucky enough to attend the first ever Design Camp. It’s a conference + soiree hosted by celebrity interior designers Lori Dennis and Kelli Ellis and a slew of their friends who are equally experts and taste makers in the design world. It was an amazing experience. I’m starting a series appropriately called Top 10 Reasons to Attend Design Camp written by some of the people I was lucky to have met.

Today, Sharon of Sharon Taylor Designs is sharing her insight on the camp. She’s an event planner and an interior designer extraordinaire whose work has been featured in amazing mags like Better Homes and Gardens, Real Simple and the like. That mix of Rococo + Vintage mix room above? That’s actually one of her work. Cool beans, right?

That’s her in the lovely black ensemble in the top picture and looking chic en route to the class.

And here’s her Top 10 Reasons…

1. Networking: Chatting it up with fellow designers, industry experts, and colleagues.

2. Trending Alerts: Getting up to date on the latest design trends by experts and being exposed to visual trends as well as the descriptive lingo that we can later use with our own clients.
3. Camp counselors and expert panelists are genuinely interested in YOU!
4. Green Design: Learn about how and why it is so crucial for the world we live in today!
5. ‘Making Magic’: Inspiring speakers who moved me to the point of goosebumps.
6. ‘Decorate Fearlessly’: Moving me to think outside of my own comfort zone.
7. One on One Interaction: AWESOME experience with industry experts and publishers.
8. Book Signing: LOVED adding signed copies to my personal design library!
9. Making new lifelong friends! Laughter. Wine!
10. Extremely helpful tips on getting articles and projects published.

Thanks so, so much Sharon! Please stay tuned for more campers sharing their experiences. The next camp is in Atlanta. You must check it out…here’s how to register.
